International Geneva “the world smallest metropolis”
Geneva is sometimes affectionately called “the world’s smallest metropolis”. And this moniker is no coincidence – many international organizations have their headquarters in Geneva; such as the UN, the ICRC, the WHO, CERN or the WTO, to name just a handful. Around 200 governmental and non-governmental organizations call Geneva their home, and many are located near the Place des Nations.
However, the high density of international institutions is not the only reason for the aforementioned nickname. Almost half of Geneva’s residents hold foreign passports. This cultural and linguistic blend naturally contributes to the cosmopolitan vibe in the city at Switzerland’s south-western tip, making Geneva a perfect location for all kinds of events, and a place where your multinational customers or employees will feel at ease.
